Commonly known as "Two Bobs", Robert Roberts was in the Wales squad for the 2000 World Cup but didn't make his international debut until 2002. He started his career at East Leeds as a junior and then ended up coaching them following his playing career. In between that, he spent time with no less than ten clubs in his professional career, starting with Keighley Cougars in the last winter season of 1995-96. He remained there until midway through the 1998 season, finishing that campaign with Hunslet. After that, he rarely spent more than one season at a single club. Following Hunslet there was Hull FC (1999), Halifax (2000), York City Knights, Keighley Cougars, Hunslet Hawks and Huddersfield Giants (all 2001). He spent the whole of the 2002 season with the Giants, where he made 30 Super League appearances, scoring four tries, kicking 13 goals and four drop goals. However at the start of the 2003 season, he was sacked by the club for internal disciplinary reasons and went into back into the community game with Leigh East. He still made Wales appearances at the end of that season. He was given another chance in the pro game in 2006 with Leigh Centurions and helped them win the National League Cup Final that year. He played a few more games for Leigh in 2007 before moving to Oldham mid-season. He spent two years with the club before again losing his job for disciplinary reasons. That was midway through 2009 and he was taken on by Barrow Raiders, playing the whole of 2010 in Cumbria too. A single appearance for Dewsbury Rams in 2011 completed his playing career. His total figures for all professional clubs was 232 appearances, 46 tries, 54 goals and 10 drop goals equalling 302 points.
