Adam Hughes qualified for Wales under the heritage rule. A junior player with Milford Marlins, he went through Leeds Rhinos' academy and played 12 games for the first team in the 1996 and 1997 seasons, scoring seven tries. He made a brief switch to rugby union with Leeds Tykes before joining Wakefield Trinity during the 1998 season, helping them win the First Division Grand Final that year. After 79 appearances, 43 tries and 49 goals, he joined Halifax in 2001 for one season (18 appearances, 11 tries, 6 goals). He moved to Widnes Vikings in 2002 for their debut Super League season, making his Wales debut against New Zealand at the end of the year. He stayed at Widnes for four seasons, ending up on 99 appearances, scoring 53 tries and kicking 63 goals. He later joined Leigh Centurions in 2006, who he helped to Northern Rail Cup Final victory, Oldham in 2007 and Barrow in 2008 before retiring. His final career figures were 286 games, 169 tries and 145 goals equalling 966 points.
