Kris Tassell represented Wales at the 2000 Rugby League World Cup. In their first group game against the Cook Islands, he became one of the few Welsh players to score a hat trick of tries in a game. He was subsequently named Man of the Match. In their semi-final loss to Australia, he scored a try in the 46-22 defeat. Born in Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia, Kris, who is of Welsh descent through his grandparents, played his junior rugby league for the Cairns Kangaroos and attended Trinity Anglican School before being signed by the Canberra Raiders. He represented Queensland U17 in 1990 before making his first grade debut for Raiders in 1990. In 1995, he joined the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, playing four first grade games, spending the majority of the season in reserve grade. In 1996, he returned to Queensland, signing with the North Queensland Cowboys. That season, he scored eight tries in nine games before a knee injury against the Newcastle Knights in Round 11 ended his season. He finished the year as the club's equal-top try scorer. In 2000, he joined the Salford City Reds, staying there for two years before moving to Wakefield Trinity. His total Super League stats were 22 tries in 69 games. He finished his career with a year at Swinton Lions in 2003. Despite not playing any professional club games in 2004, he still represented Wales at the end of that season. He remained in the UK until 2012 before returning to Australia, ending up working with communications company Telstra as a local area manager covering licensee stores across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
