Martin Hall started to play for Wales after the grandparent rule was brought in, and played for Wales in the 1995 Rugby League World Cup, and was also part of the Wales side who won the European Championship earlier that year. He started his club career with Oldham in 1986 before spending three years at Rochdale Hornets from 1989. He then spent five successful years at Wigan where he scored 29 tries and kicked 19 goals in 141 appearances and won medals galore. He scored a try in Wigan's 30-10 victory over Leeds in the 1995 Challenge Cup Final, came on as sub in their 1994 World Club Challenge victory over Brisbane Broncos. He also won two Regal Trophy and three League Championship medals. After short spelling spells at Castleford Tigers, Halifax and Hull FC, he turned to coaching, initially at Rochdale and then Hull Kingston Rovers. In 2005 he was the first person to be appointed by the newly autonomous Wales Rugby League as head coach, leading us to the 2005 European Championship Final, but Wales not qualifying for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup meant that his services were no longer required following Wales' fateful defeat to Lebanon in 2007. He went onto coach Halifax before working in media.
