Gordon Hale Lewis was Wales' 27th captain, leading us in his final two appearances. He also won a cap for Great Britain in 1965 against New Zealand, and represented Other Nationalities. A fast try-scoring centre, he was snapped up Leigh in 1958 after playing just 25 games for Swansea RFC. There he scored 112 tries in his 386 appearances over 13 years, picking up a BBC2 Floodlit Trophy winners medal in 1969, coming on as a sub in their 11-6 Final win over Wigan. Just a month after that, he was captain on Wales. He joined Swinton in 1971 and spent two seasons there before retiring. He remained in Leigh after his retirement, working with his father-in-law as an engineer in the nuclear power industry. Whilst he didn't ever play for his local rugby union, Mynydd-y-Garreg RFC, he is honoured there, as his Great Britain shirt is framed on the wall, coupled with a photo of him scoring for Leigh, alongside the Welsh rugby union shirt of Ray Gravell. In 2009, former Leigh player and coach Alex Murphy named Gordon in his Leigh Dream XIII.
