Jake is the grandson of another former Wales international Lionel Emmitt. An England Youth player who turned out against Wales, he made his full Welsh international debut in the 2010 European Cup winning campaign which gave Wales qualification for the 2011 Four Nations. He played in the 2013 World Cup and in the 2017 qualifiers, but injury prevented him from travelling to Australia for the tournament itself. He started playing rugby league at Woolston Rovers, also played at Rylands, and when he was 16, he moved to Blackbrook Royals for one season. The move to the Royals came after he had signed for the Warrington Wolves. Jake also went to the RFL National Camp. From this camp he was selected to play for England Under 16s. At Blackbrook he played alongside Danny Fairhurst, Steve Tyrer and Adam Twamley and won the BARLA National Cup, the League Cup and the North West Counties League Championship. Following on from the scholarship with Warrington, he signed a professional contract with the Club, playing there for two seasons in the Under 18 and 21s team. However he left his contract a year early and gave up playing rugby league choosing instead to play amateur rugby union at Lymm Rugby Union Club for the Open Age side. Following a season there, he went back to rugby league with St Helens, and was dual registered with Leigh Centurions. Making 19 appearances for Saints, which is where he scored his lone Super League try, he had more of a regular spot at Castleford Tigers for two seasons, but he did spend a month on loan at Keighley at the end of his spell, before spending a year at Salford. Three years at Leigh Centurions followed before becoming a founder player at Toronto Wolfpack. He moved back to Leigh for a short spell in 2019 before going back to Lymm. His total Super League appearances with all clubs was 81.
