Known at "The Beast" due to his height, David was the 43rd captain of Wales, skippering the side just the once which was in his final international game. The son of another Welsh international in Jim Mills, In his youth, David played for Widnes West Bank Bears, which at one point was sponsored by his dad's nightclub. David made 182 Super League appearances in his career, over half of which for his hometown club Widnes Vikings whom he joined at 14 years old and made his debut for in 2002. That season he was named in three representative squads - Emerging England, Lancashire and Wales, but only played for the latter two. He won his two county caps in their double win over Yorkshire in 2002. In his season with Leigh Centurions in 2011, he was part of the side that won the Northern Rail Cup. He finished his career in his dad's home country with League 1 side North Wales Crusaders which is when injury forced him to retire. In his later playing years, he went from full time to part time and started working in civil engineering, continuing that after his playing days. His son plays junior rugby league at Crosfields so a third generation of Mills playing for Wales could be on the cards.
