Jack Foley was born in Brynmawr in 1878. He was a Newport RFC player in 1908 when he turned professional with Ebbw Vale, where he played three seasons. In addition to his five full Welsh caps, he represented the Welsh League XIII in the 14-13 victory over Australia at Penydarren Park, Merthyr Tydfil. He died in Brynmawr in June 1949.
