Frank Francis Osmond became Wales' 18th captain when he led us against France in April 1951, deputising for the injured Dickie Williams. A regular with Newport RFC at hooker before and after World War II, he turned professional in 1947 with Swinton. In addition to his 14 Wales caps, he toured Australia and New Zealand with the 1950 Lions. However he didn't ever win a full Great Britain cap, playing only in the tour matches against club and regional sides on that tour. Moving back to his native South Wales at the end of his rugby career, he died in Caerleon on January 12 1973, aged 52.
