Born in 1907, Reginald Hathway started his rugby with Cross Keys before turning out for Newport 106 times. His performances brought him to the attention of Oldham scouts and he turned professional there in 1929. After three years, 129 appearances and 25 tries, he signed for Wigan. There, he helped them to the 1934 League Championship and played in the 15-3 Final win over Salford. He ended up on 57 appearances for the club, scoring three tries.
