David James impressed with Blackwood Bulldogs, helping them to win the Welsh Conference in 2009 and Wales Dragonhearts, scoring seven tries in 2007 as they won the Four Nations. He played in the Bulldogs' final game, a Challenge Cup defeat to Oldham in 2010 and then joined South Wales Scorpions. Injured for the 2011 season, he returned with a bang in 2012, which was when he won his full Wales caps. Already an established rugby union player with Blackwood, Cross Keys, Newport and Crawshays, David left rugby league at the end of the 2013 season after being left out of the World Cup squad, returning to the 15-man game with Ebbw Vale. He stayed there for one season before turning his talents to crossfit.
