Colin Standing played rugby union for Tondu, Cefn Cribbwr and London University until he started with Bridgend in 1961. A full-back until he was 18 years old, he then switched to the back row. Whilst at Bridgend, he represented Crawshays and also a combined Bridgend-Maesteg XV that faced the touring Fijians in 1964. He turned professional with Wigan in 1967 but only played 18 games, scoring two tries, before having even shorter spells at Oldham and Warrington. An industrial chemist by trade, he eventually moved back to South Wales.
