Jason Critchley played in every game for Wales in the 2000 World Cup, which was exactly half of his Wales RL 13-man international career. He actually made his Wales debut in Fiji in Super League Nines World Cup, but that wasn't his first taste of international RL. A former Great Britain U16, U19 and U21 player, he actually played against Wales for England in a full international in 1992, switching his allegiance after the grandparent rule was brought into the game. He was a Great Britain Lions tourist in 1996, playing in three of the club games but didn't ever win a GB test cap. After going through the Blackbrook junior sides, he started his professional career with Widnes, making just 20 appearances there before a more successful move to Salford where he scored 51 tries in 95 appearances. He had spells at Keighley, where he broke a 90 year record club by scoring six tries in a game, and Castleford, before making a switch to rugby union in 1998 where he turned out for Newport and Leicester Tigers. Making a brief return to Super League in 2000, he played eight matches for Wakefield Trinity. Following the World Cup, he went back to the 15-man game with French side US Dax. Another brief return to RL followed with Whitehaven before finishing his rugby career in the 15-man game in Ireland for De La Salle Palmerston. Since retirement he worked for a number of sportswear manufacturers, before going to Capita to client manage their London councils in regards to debt recovery.
