Damien Hudd spent six years in local rugby league, playing for Torfaen Tigers and Newport Titans where his performances were enough to help him win caps for East Wales, Wales Dragonhearts, where he played in all three games of their 2004 Home Nations winning side, and the full men's side. But it was in club rugby union where he made his name. A WRU U19 and U21 international, he started and ended his career with Ebbw Vale, playing for the Steelmen in European competition in his early days. In his later years with the club, he helped them win five league championships as they worked their way back through the divisions. He then guided the Gwent outfit to the National Championship title in 2013 and 2014, before the Steelmen were runners-up to Premiership winners Pontypridd in 2015. He scored 12 tries in 160 games for Ebbw and was named Premiership Player of the Year when the club got their revenge over Pontypridd to lift the Premiership trophy for the first time in 2016. He also played for Cross Keys, Tredegar and later Brynmawr who he joined in 2017 and led them to the Division 1 and National Plate double in 2018 as a player-coach. He also guested for Bedwas just after his 39th birthday, turned out for Welsh Crawshays in Georgia and later played for the British and Irish Classic Lions.
