Kevin Ellis played for Wales in two separate spells, the first being from 1991-95 where he bowed after the 1995 World Cup, before making an international comeback in 2003 and 2004 whilst playing community rugby league with Bridgend Blue Bulls. Starting off in rugby union with Bridgend RFC, he won a Wales B cap in the 15-man code before turning professional with Warrington in 1990. There he enjoyed an outstanding four seasons, playing 123 times and scoring 35 tries, picking up a Regal Trophy winners medal on the way. He went onto play for Workington Town and Gold Coast Chargers before returning to rugby union with Maesteg. He played for a number of local union clubs in South Wales before becoming player-coach of Bridgend Blue Bulls in their inaugural season of 2003, helping them to win the Welsh and National Rugby League Conference titles. He turned to junior coaching and launched rugby league at Brynteg School in Bridgend, introducing future Wales international Rhys Evans, Ben Evans and Ollie Olds to rugby league as they won the Year 7 Champion Schools Final at the Millennium Stadium in 2005. From there, he was appointed assistant coach of Celtic Crusaders, staying in that position for four years, before doing a similar role with the Welsh national side for two years. He continued to coach in rugby union whilst also working as a self-employed businessman in South Wales.
