Phil Cushion qualified for Wales through residency. He first played for Swinton Lions between 1998 and 2004, scoring 15 tries in 130 appearances, but moved to Wales for work reasons, a teacher by trade, in September 2004. When there, he played for Aberavon Fighting Irish before being picked up by Celtic Crusaders when they were formed in 2006, playing for them for two season, scoring four tries in 47 appearances. He went back to the community game with Bridgend Blue Bulls after that, before retiring from the game in 2010.
