Born in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia to a Welsh father and Tongan mother, the Corrimal Cougars junior started off at Cronulla Sharks before moving to St George Illawarra Dragons ahead of the 2013 season. He represented Wales on six occasions but following the 2013 World Cup, he took the controversial decision to switch nations and become only the second player to leave Wales, both he and Garreth Carvell before him absconding to play for the country of his birth. He has since represented Country Origin, New South Wales, where is a State of Origin winner, and Australia, where he helped his side to win the 2017 World Cup. His brother Shannon has played international rugby union player for New Zealand.
