Huddersfield-born but with Welsh heritage, Phil Joseph was vice-captain of Wales during the 2017 World Cup, which was his swansong as a rugby league player. A hard-working forward, who could play anywhere in the front-line, he helped Wales win the European Championship in 2015 after an eight-year absence from international duty. His club career totalled 260 appearances with 10 clubs, which included one game on dual registration with North Wales Crusaders. He started with Huddersfield, making 16 Super League appearances in 2004, but after that, it took him eight years to get back into the top level, playing for Bradford Bulls in 2012 before three years at Widnes Vikings and then a season at Salford to rack up 80 career Super League appearances and many more in the Challenge Cup. He became a business owner on retirement.
