As a youngster, Tom Brown played both codes of rugby, playing for Gloucestershire Warriors in rugby league. Qualifying for Wales through heritage, he first played for Wales Dragonhearts before winning a full cap, all in 2004. That was after he first played for Wales RU U21 in the World Cup whilst coming through the ranks at Worcester Warriors at Hartpury College. That was his brief flirtation into rugby league as his career progressed in the 15 man game. He played regional rugby union for Cardiff Blues and Newport Gwent Dragons as well as a number of clubs, mainly at the second level of the sport, his final one being Ealing Trailfinders as he helped them to promotion to the Championship in 2014-15. He moved to Dubai after playing, coaching at Dubai Hurricanes, became a sports teacher at Eltham College then joined the Trailfinders coaching staff in 2021.
