Brought up in North Wales, Rob played community rugby league for Chester Gladiators and actually played for England Lionhearts against Wales Dragonhearts. A star on the wing for North Wales Crusaders throughout the 2010s, he is the first and as of 2020, the only player to have scored over 100 tries for the club. His tries helped North Wales Crusaders to a Northern Rail Bowl and League 1 title double in 2013, where he was named the League 1 Team of the Year. He also picked up a League 1 Cup winners medal in 2015. In 2023, he became only the 19th Welsh international in history to score 200 first class rugby league tries as he led North Wales Crusaders to the play-offs. By professional, Rob is a qualified Biomechanics coach and runs his own business in Wrexham, Rob Massam Personal Training.
